About Us

Why do People come to therapy?

Clients often seek out therapy because of a stressful situation that creates uncomfortable amounts of depression and/or anxiety.  Work, family and/or friendship dynamics can create a lot of stress.  Under stress we all revert to "tendencies" and therapy can shed light on those tendencies.

Right now people are experiencing high levels of personal stress in concert with a very stressful world.  Clients engage in therapy to help making sense of all that is going on.

Substance Use or "Addictive" Behaviors

Many adults utilize substances and/or engage in behaviors to help cope with their emotions.  Substance use/behaviors are often related to anxiety and/or depression.  Some embark on a journey with programs like, "12-Step" and "AA".  Others privately explore their use patterns and behaviors to gain insights and identify which path is best for them to address the concerns.  I don't judge clients on their use/behaviors.  Rather,  my approach comes from a belief that, "we go towards what we need" and I work with clients to uncover the relationships between emotions and substances/behaviors.  Then I empower the client to make the decision best for him/her about what they want to do to make changes.

What can Therapy do?

In my personal and professional experience, therapy can:

  • facilitate insights and understanding about why you are feeling the way you are and engaging with others the way you do
  • provide you with other ideas/perspectives for you to consider to help you feel better
  • help you be less hard on yourself
  • use your values to create a framework to help navigate this stressful world
